Early into my overseas flight, I was struck with unbelievable pain. It was the onset of a kidney stone. A flight attendant discovered me in the fetal position in the middle of the aisle, and she led me back to the galley, so I could experience my pain in semi-private. She tried to comfort me and told me, “It’s OK to cry.” Thanks. She got on the loudspeaker and asked if there was a doctor onboard. There was, and he was authorized to open the on-board medical kit and administer some morphine. God bless him. That held me over, barely, until my flight landed in Houston. I went straight to the hospital, and I had surgery the next morning.

I had a similar experience on an overseas flight as well. Unfortunately, the 3 different shots of medicine they gave me were not strong enough and the plane was forced to land due to my medical emergency in Goose Bay, Canada. I spent the next 4 days taking morphine with demerol until I was feeling better and could fly back to Chicago and then have another kidney stone attack the next morning. Diagnosis - I'm a walking gravel pit!
