I had been waiting for the hotel shuttle to pick me up at the airport for 30 minutes. I had called them when I landed and they said a driver would be along in “10 to 15 minutes.” After I watched two shuttles from other Holiday Inns go by, I called them again. “10 to 15 minutes,” they said. When the driver finally arrived, I had been waiting a total of 45 minutes. I was hopping mad as the driver opened the door to the shuttle. When I complained about how long it took, he argued with me, saying he had come by once, at 11:15. I said I had been standing there since 11:00. He grabbed his clipboard to show me his travel log. “Are you calling me a liar?” I said. “Are you calling me one?” he shouted and threw down his clipboard. I backed away and said, “No,” calmly. “I think I’ll just take a cab.” He seemed to regret what had happened, and was starting to apologize. I jumped in a cab as quickly as I could -- exactly what I should have done in the first place.
